Banshee Bikes at 2010 Sea Otter

April 15-18 come by booth 546.

Keith is flying out from Scotland so if you want to geek out on bike tech talk make sure you grab him. Rob is coming in from Taiwan and Ryan is flying in from Oregon. If you see us we're all approachable so don't hesitate to grab us and ask a question or make a comment - thats why we're there.
I can't make it unfortunately as I have a production coming through and have school.

We will have Banshee's Team Geronimo and MCL Racing as well as part of the Canadian team contingent competing at the races.
Trident Sports will also be there helping to organize everything and will be managing demo bikes for people to try.

We will be showing off the new Legend MkII from the Taipei show - Rob is dragging it with him.

Its going to be a great time, and we're really excited to meet all the riders and racers. This is really why we do what we do and I so happy that we're part of the Sea Otter Classic again after too long of a break.

Remember booth 546!

2010 Pro GRT Port Angeles Information

Greetings MTB Race fans!
We’re gearing up for the first round of the 2010 Pro Gravity Tour on April 22-25 held in the picturesque town of Port Angeles, Washington. The kickoff to what its set to be an astounding national mtb gravity race series is going to take the Pro GRT to new levels! Not only will the event be close to some great cycling & snowboarding destinations, but it’ll be fairly easy to travel to, as it’s the weekend following the Sea Otter Classic! With a majority of the industry already in attendance, we’re expecting to see a GREAT turnout of athletes, teams & industry alike! Both Trek World Racing & Team Giant will be in attendance, not to mention many more!
Interested in attending? All of your questions, & logistical concerns can be found by visiting the Pro GRT website at www.progrt.com/portangeles2010.htm
Port Angeles, where the mountains meet the sea, will also be the 2nd round of the NWCup. The venue is just 3 miles from town with ample lodging and dining opportunities. Dry Hill's trails are legendary for providing both a challenge and super fun, flowy trails. A large network of trails that all start and end in the same spot ensures a variety of courses for the riders throughout the series.
The Pro GRT will bring in top riders from across the country and world. Last year the attendance was over 400 racers for this event. As a promoter, this is both exciting and very challenging. Dry Hill is not a ski resort with existing services, so we set it up and tear it down for each event. Additionally, we have very limited level space for pit/tech use. It is very important to let us know exactly what you need as soon as possible so we can do our best to accommodate your needs. All space is first come, first serve.

Attached is a form to submit for Tech/Expo spaces. Please remit them to Scott Tucker at your earliest convenience at olympicdirtsociety@yahoo.com
The weekend of this event, there is also a Jazz Festival going on that draws a lot of out-of-towners, so we encourage you to make lodging arrangements as soon as you can.
Some things to consider:
-We will have at least one person on-site at all times for security purposes.
-The North Olympic Peninsula enjoys weather not typical of the Pacific Northwest. Often we are dry while surrounded by rain.
-There is no water or electric service on-site. You must be fully self-contained. Generators welcome.
-There will be a food-vendor on-site serving breakfast, lunch & dinner.
-The trails and venue area are behind a locked gate, so if you are wanting to pre-ride or set-up early, you need to let us know. The event is scheduled for Thursday the 22nd thru Sunday the 25th.
-The venue is only three miles from town and only one mile from the nearest campground.
Can’t wait to race? Port Angeles will host the first round of the NWCup this weekend (March 26-28, 2010). For more information check out www.nwcup.com.

Should you have any questions or need additional information (including sponsorship), feel free to contact Dylan Dean at your earliest convenience at 760-443-3344 or email jdd@dylan-dean.com

Seeya at the races!

2010 BMR Series Race #3 &*#@ Trail

Another local race happened again this weekend. Living in California allows riding twelve months out of the year. It just so happens that a local race series starts about the beginning of February in this neck of the woods. This is in preparation of the collegiate series.

This race was held on the most technical trail in the area and also the western USA. The turnout of riders was good and there were a fair number of spectators. The trail is difficult to walk up from the bottom but people manage to hike up and find what looks like the most likely obstacle to give riders a problem. There the spectators will perch and cheer riders on as they make they way down the hill.

In total ten riders showed up to challenge themselves and the trail. That is what is so great about races like these. Yes you racing against others but there is always the search for that perfect run or clearing that section you have never done before. This trail is perfect for that type of mind game.

Overall the riders had good runs. There were a few pinch flats and a couple spills. The notable fall came on the second run of the day when Mark Hesser was about to cross the finish line. Approaching the finish rider’s fall about fifty feet in short order. So the run up is steep and filled with sharp rocks that are covered by smaller chunks of shale. It can get a little squirrelly sometimes and after navigating that you have about a six-foot drop onto a road. Mark looked a little shaky going through the rocks and considering his first time riding the trail was the day before it is totally understandable. He flipped over the bars just feet before the drop and crossed the line while going head over heels over the drop! Luckily he walked away laughing but as it was happening it appeared very serious.

Leland once again laid claim to throwing down the fastest time and winning first place on one of the hairiest trails around. He beat second place by seven seconds and almost beat out his record run for the trail. Check out the time below.

1. Leland O’Connor 1:48.37
2. Nate Lewis 1:55.09
3. Evan Bissell 1:56.56
4. Dan Baggs 2:00.84
5. Josef Duller 2:02.37
6. Kevin Pabinquit 2:15.77
7. Owen Raybould 2:31.18
8. Gordon Hill 2:31.43
9. Mark Hesser 3.25.18
10. Soren 23. 17.59 (DNF)

Freeride Mountain Bike (FMB) World Tour 2010 Announced

Freeride Mountain biking, which includes Big Mountain, Slopestyle and Dirt Jump contests, has become an essential part of the sport during the last decade. The number of riders participating in these sports is rapidly increasing every year. But unlike other comparable action sports, freeride mountain biking has never had its own world series like snowboarding (TTR World Snowboard Tour) or surfing (ASP World Tour). During the last six months, an alliance of core scene members consisting of professional athletes, event organizers and opinion leaders have been putting their heads together to make a change and initiated the establishment of the Freeride Mountain Bike (FMB) World Tour – starting in 2010.

The goal of the tour is to bring a professional structure to the sport and raise the level of the events to make them safer and more consistent for athletes and the media worldwide. Freeride mountain biking has become a dynamic and progressive sport with many skilled athletes competing in many different events around the globe. The formation of a tour is the next logical step for freeride mountain biking to become considered as one of the elite sports within the action sports world. “It’s time to bring the sport of freeride mountain biking to the next level. The FMB World Tour will help bring consistency to our sport. I will know that when I show up to a FMB tour stop that the event will be safe, the judging will be fair and the end of the day we will know where I stand among the other athletes” says pro freerider Aaron Chase.

The goal of the Freeride Mountain Bike (FMB) World Tour is not to create an entirely new tour, but to integrate already existing high class and successful events from around the world. Athletes who compete at FMB sanctioned events will be able to collect points by attending these different Slopestyle, Dirt Jump and Big Mountain events, which are integrated in to the FMB World Tour. The world ranking system will be updated after each official tour stop and this will allow athletes, fans and the media to follow the action. After the final tour stop the points will be tallied and we will have our FMB World Tour champion. “The FMB World tour is an exciting new chapter for the sport of Freeride Mountain biking. The time has finally come for the athletes, event organizers and industry to come together to show the world how incredible the sport of freeride mountain biking can be.” Says Todd Barber producer of the Red Bull Rampage.

In order to assure that the FMB World Tour includes the interests of the sport – athletes, event organizers as well as the public – the FMB World Tour advisory board has been created. The members of the advisory board are experts in the action sports world and were chosen because of their diverse backgrounds and dedication to the sport.

Aaron Chase (pro rider / USA), Todd Barber (event organizer “Red Bull Rampage” / USA), Alex Dörr (CEO & founder EIM Solutions / GER), Tarek Rasouli (athlete manager & event organizer, “Big in Bavaria”, “26TRIX”, “Vienna Air King”, “White Style” / GER), Vincent Saccomani (judge of international events, journalist & filmer / FRA), Jeremy Roche (organizer “Kokanee Crankworx” and “Crankworx Colorado” events / CAN), Darren Berrecloth (pro rider & event organizer “Bearclaw Invitational” / CAN) and Grant Fielder (pro rider & course builder / GBR).

In order to establish the FMB World Tour, an organization called the Freeride Mountain Bike Association (FMBA) has been formed to give all of its members a voice. The FMBA is a non-profit organization with the goal to push the sport of freeride mountain biking into a more professional direction and raise awareness within the public and media.

The FMBA had been in negotiations with the following selected premier events that are a fixed part of the FMB World Tour for 2010:

• Vienna Air King, Vienna (AUT), April 10th & 11th
• Dirt Masters Mongoose Slopestyle, Winterberg (GER), May 21st to 24th
• 26TRIX, Leogang (AUT), June 24th to 26th
• Chatel Mountain Style, Chatel (FRA), July 2nd to 4th
• BikeRadar Live Invitational Dirt Jump Contest, Kent (GBR), July 10th & 11th
• Claymore Challenge, Highland Mountain Park (USA), July 15th to 17th
• BIG IN BAVARIA, Munich (GER), July 22nd to 25th
• Crankworx Colorado, Winter Park (USA), July 29th to August 1st
• Kokanee Crankworx, Whistler (CAN), August 7th to 15th
• Red Bull Rampage, Virgin, Utah (USA), September 30th to October 3rd

The events will be classified in one of three categories. Each events classification will be determined by their ability to meet important criteria like: Quality of riders, course design, media, prize money and significance of the event.

Freeride mountain biking is set to reach a new level of professionalism in 2010. The FMB World Tours first stop is right around the corner and is set to take place at the “Vienna Air King” on April 10th and 11th (www.vienna-air-king.at ).

The official FMB World tour website is currently under construction and it will list important information on the tour and the World tour athlete ranking: www.fmbworldtour.com .

General information about the FMB World Tour:

The goal of the Freeride Mountain Bike (FMB) World Tour is to help develop the sport of Freeride Mountain Biking –which includes: big mountain, slopestyle and dirt jumping – providing athletes and event organizers with a tangible world ranking system and guidelines for course design, judging and safety.
The FMB World Tour is run by the Freeride Mountain Bike Association (FMBA), a non-profit organisation following the goal to push the mountain bike freeride sport into a more professional direction and establish it in the world of sports through the raise of media and public attention.

2010 Santa Cruz V-10 Test Session 2

Banshee Legend MK II SHow Bike Unveiled

Unless you have been living under a rock for the past couple of months you have seen pictures of the Banshee Legend MKII. The first time I saw pictures of the Legend MKII I thought it looked pretty much like every other race bike out there. After seeing it in person a month ago I started lusting over the thought of getting one. In the span of a work day my lust turned into love and then heart break.

Today my task was to build the Legend MKII show bike. When I showed up at the factory there was a medium Legend in the Team Red color scheme waiting for me. After raiding Jay’s office and desk I had the parts ready to start building.

Usually after building up a bike, even if it is a friend's or customers I will take it for a little spin to make sure everything is good to go. This is first bike that I did not go for my ceremonial ride ... and that is when my heart was broken. We would like to thank Cane Creek, Manitou, Hayes, Straitline, WTB, Race Face, Funn and Crank Brothers for helping out with this special build project. I'm not much for reading, so check out the pictures ...

Atomlab Buys Corsair Bikes

We are excited and proud to announce that Corsair Bikes has just been purchased by Mike Flaherty and Froggy Khu of Atomlab, along with Pablo Tafoya, the designer of the Corsair frames. Corsair will continue to build on its innovative designs and advanced linkage technology. Pablo will play a much more central role in the brand's direction and vision. Ralf Hauser, former editorial director and co-founder of Flow, Twentysix, and decline magazines will also be working with Corsair. Ralf, who is based in Austria these days, will be developing the new website that should be launched within a few weeks, and helping with marketing and media relations.

Atomlab's new distribution company, Dirtec Direct (dirtecdirect.com), which now distributes Atomlab, Black Market, and the Sensus, will now handle distribution for Corsair Bikes in the USA. However, Corsair will remain a completely separate brand from Atomlab. International distribution will continue to be handled by Corsair's current international distributors, with no significant changes to pricing or dealers.

Corsair Bikes' new offices will be located in Santa Clarita, California, in a brand new location with the best resources available to build the finest bikes possible.

The new management at Corsair places a huge importance on pro-rider involvement, feedback, and sponsorship. Corsair is currently finalizing a new team of elite riders, which will be announced later this month. Development of brand new product for the 2011 season is already under way and we hope to get some serious riding hours in on the prototypes soon.
The new direction of the company will be portrayed in every aspect of its structure, from branding to marketing and in the product itself, so expect many groundbreaking changes in the future. Intense Cycles Hires Craig "Stikman" Glaspell as Marketing Manager

TEMECULA, CA (BRAIN)—Intense Cycles has hired Craig “Stikman” Glaspell as its new marketing manager.

Glaspell brings with him an extensive background in the bicycle business, beginning in the mid-80s and ranging from retail to world cup racing. He was best known as team manager and wrench for some of the best racers in the world, including Brian Lopes and Leigh Donovan, who later became his wife.

Stikman left the bike industry in 2005 to pursue a career as a professional photographer and start a family.

“I had become a professional photographer with many bicycle and motocross industry clients after I left the bike biz and we also started a successful e-commerce store," Glaspell said. "But I was really missing the bike scene. I have a 15-year history with Intense, either choosing their bikes for my race teams or riding them myself. I am really pumped to finally be a part of a brand that I can unequivocally be proud of.”

Glaspell will be working in the creative department with owner Jeff Steber and will be the company’s contact person for all marketing, media and PR projects.

“It is going to be a fun, new adventure with Stikman," Steber said. "I have known Stik for a long time and have always liked his vision in regards to our brand, and we are growing daily so it was time to make the move.”

SR Suntour Launches North American Subsidiary

Suspension and component manufacturer SR Suntour is pleased to announce the establishment of SR Suntour North America. This new subsidiary will be based in Vancouver, WA. Darrell Voss who has led SR Suntour's US activities for the past eleven years will be Director of this new venture and will oversee all of the company's activities in North America as well as being an integral part of the global company's product development activities.

An important factor behind the establishment of this new company is SR Suntour's ambition to build and broaden its business in the aftermarket. Currently, as the industry's largest suspension manufacturer, approximately 90% of the company's production goes to OEM sales.

To drive the aftermarket business, SR Suntour has hired Doug Stuart (pictured) FSA's former president, to manage aftermarket sales and marketing in North America. Since leaving FSA in 2006, Stuart established Corsair Bikes, a high-end full suspension bicycle brand. Having recently sold Corsair Bikes, Stuart will bring his experience in executing successful dealer, distributor and marketing programs to SR Suntour.

"The way this company has built a very robust vertically integrated manufacturing base is truly impressive. When combined with an effective sales and marketing strategy, its easy to understand that the investment on the manufacturing side represents a rock solid foundation for the future growth of the SR Suntour brand", said Doug Stuart.

About the Company:

The roots of today's SR Suntour date back to 1912 when freewheel maker Maeda Industries was established. Over the decades a number of mergers occurred between Maeda Industries, Mori Industries, Sakae Ringyo (SR) and Suntour. In 1987 chairman Daisuke Kobayashi and the management team of SR moved the company to Taiwan and finally in 1995 the SR Suntour company of today was formalized.

SR Suntour operates three factories located in Chung Hua, Taiwan, Shen Zhen, China and Kunshan, China. These factories are vertically integrated for aluminum and magnesium casting and forging, drawing, CNC machining, spring manufacturing, and final painting, finishing and assembly. With it's headquarters in Chung Hua, Taiwan, SR Suntour also operates a sales and service office and warehouse based in the Munich Germany area.

Doug Stuart can be contacted at dstuart@srsuntourna.com
